Create a Sustainable Foundation
Develop an individualized daily practice that makes sense to and best suits you! Research suggests mindfulness and yoga tools not only contribute positively to wellbeing, but can aid in creating a sustainable platform for addiction recovery.
Addiction can result in anhedonia, feelings of shame, and feeling disconnected from your sense of self. Yoga can serve as a tool to open up a dialogue with your body, and over time cultivate trust, appreciation, and acceptance.
Keep in mind: One size does not fit all. You don’t have to go 0 to 100 to make a difference. Small sustainable steps will always be more important than doing nothing at all. Taking 5 intentional breaths as a daily practice with integrity, may have more benefit than forcing yourself into flowery shapes on a mat for the sake of doing so.
Sustainability matters!
Let's be real: Practicing an hour daily is not realistic always. If we wait for our ideal conditions or ‘the right time’ to practice, we may wait a long time without.
Be honest with yourself: What can you realistically commit to daily? (Know if you do more some days - amazing! If you simply show up - amazing! If you took 3 breaths with integrity - amazing!)
Remember: Life is flux. Things change. Intentions may need reevaluation from time to time. Allow your practice to be what it is. Different times call for different practices. Release ideals of success or failure and give yourself credit for showing up :)
